Infiniminer Update

Game should be out either at the end of this week or sometime next week. I’m working with a friend of a friend, Chris, to get some awesome graphics into the game, like the Prospectron hand-held mineradar you can see below.

Getting back to the surface is often the hard part…

That looks like pure awesomeness. I don’t play many games any more due to time constraints, but I will definitely end up playing this! Also, you mentioned LAN playing. That wouldn’t involve going through a server? Can’t remember the last time that existed… Which is why I like it! aw… my shift key just fell off.

Hey fellas, Chris here. Currently sitting in a computer lab between classes, playing with pixelating the construction gun. I can say from my somewhat limited playtesting that this game is a ton of fun. As Nathan was hoping, there’s a definite Dwarf Fortress feel to it, though with much more direct control. I’m a big fan of DF myself, which helped raise my interest in this project. You can dig/build some awesome things, and you get to do it multiplayer. Think DF mining and masonry in 3D multiplayer.
At this point, Zach is mostly waiting on me to finish up the art assets, so feel free to direct any impatient remarks at me. 🙂
If all goes well and my schedule stays open, I may be working with Zach on some future projects. Any feedback on my work is welcome and appreciated.

We’re gettin’ there. All of the major tool graphics are in and animated with the (glaring) exception of the pickaxe. Once that’s done, I just need to whip up a few improved block textures and fiddle with the player sprites, and we should be good to go on my end.

No, AFK, I don’t believe that was me. I’ve never played any game called Werewolf, to be honest.
The name is actually derived from a very obscure, low quality PS2 game. I basically hijacked the name from that, and only twice in my life have I seen the full name (Last name Cyndar.) being used on a forum or site of any kind. I really should come up with something better, but, this is what I’m known as. I guess my identifier could be that the middle name, which I made up, is Astros, but that’s not really often going to come up in a conversation. If you want to really be sure it’s me, just ask for my middle name. 😛

It’s always amusing to see how impatient people can get. It’s like there’s nothing else to do and no other online games to play while waiting for this. I’m sure it’ll be great, and it’ll done when it’s ready, and no amount of stressing over the release will change that. Of course, if DID influence the release, then I’d be disappointed anyways, since it meant that Zach and Chris hurried through the end. Let them take their time, get it right and deliver a good product. Until then, everyone, show some maturity and go find one of the other dozen new games that come out every day.

Sorry about the wait, fellas. My spring break turned out to be extremely busy (with un-fun personal affairs) so I wasn’t able to commit myself to Infiniminer as I had planned. We are close though. We’re at least up to build 0.90 now, and there’s only a handful of things left to do. My schedule is opening up again, so you can probably expect a release soon.
Thankfully, Zach is fully capable of making games like KOHCTPYKTOP all by himself, so things should keep on rolling anyway.

Zach, I’m not sure if this is a big favor or a little one, but I’ll ask it none the less. I have a 1024X600 monitor at max since selling my old desktop to purchase a laptop, and sadly have been unable to play so many of you games that I love so much. I really want this game to be able to be played in a resolution that I could use it in, maybe have an option for 900X600 or something. Thank you for reading.

The resolution is configurable to whatever you want, but all of the interface graphics were designed for 1024×768 and up. I’ll try to add a mode that will make it work for resolutions below 1024×768.

Ty: It’s unlikely that Infiniminer will run on your HP Mini, as it’s a fairly CPU and GPU intensive game. While the graphics look primitive, the game does a lot of processing to render the environment with an infinite view distance.

Xolroc – Heh, as a member of the official forums for an embarrassingly long time, I have to point out that Motherload is an XGenStudios game. They gave plenty of other sites permission to host it though, including Miniclip.
Not that it matters… just couldn’t let that one go. 😛
But to answer your question: A little bit. You’ll be digging massive tunnels and making surface runs. But you’ll be doing it in 3D with other players, and you’ll be trying to sabotage the other team’s tunnels at the same time.
And no Mr. Natas, I’m afraid. 😉
On another note, there’s a new feature that’s totally awesome and reminds me even more of Dwarf Fortress. But I’ll let Zach tell you about that.

Got the game and it’s a blast, though I do have 3 questions:
    1) Have you considered making any kind of device that could move/pump lava upwards towards the surface? Like a pump-block that can have pipe-pieces fitted to it for transporting the lava, and another type of pipe piece which dispenses it on any exposed sides?
    2) With the removal of the teleport-block, would you consider adding a block such as a “lift” block? I imagine it could be something where you add it on to a side of a ladder (since the ladder block looks more like a set of guide-rails or tracks). When you’re on the block, and you look up (more than 45

There is one update that youll HAVE to do:
Dirt block spawning: you might give the engineer a block that looks like dirt but can be walked through by both teams and/or make it so that blocks can be taken and deployed so we can take dirt blocks and close the way we came behind us.
You might also want to think about more options for the prospector. let him also see the other teams members and the fake dirt blocks if you put those in.
many others have also asked for water and I can see how that makes sense, though I would say dirt blocks are the priority
you made a brilliant game. make it as customizable as possible, cause that will make it live long and prosperous.

phaser, monsters would require adding an AI to the game. That would take a LOT of code and coding. And why would it need a “make a server” button? It already has a seperate executable for a game server. That way you can play while you host. And in case you didn’t notice, Infiniminer is now open source. You can add the new equipment yourself! 😀
